Mosaic is a debut album defined by freedom of approach: a program for saxophone that moves beyond genre and convention, revealing the instrument's full expressive range. Classical works sit alongside jazz and Latin repertoire, creating a contemporary sound world and giving new life to the classical canonical repertoire. At it's centre, Fernande Decruck's Sonata in C-sharp is heard in dialogue with music by Ravel, Piazzolla, Gershwin, Erroll Garner and McCoy Tyner, while works by Álvaro Carrillo and João Donato highlight a strong Central and South American thread. Short interludes-improvised, transitional fragments-link the program, guiding it towards an increasingly open and uninhibited close. Taken as a whole, Mosaic is a curated selection of works which reflects the many strands of Salvador Flores's musical life-his background, influences and collaborations-assembled into a single artistic statement.
